About Programme

Mission: Our department aims to raise individuals who have the knowledge to work at an international level in every field of art history, who have the ability to apply their knowledge to other disciplines, who can think and think critically, who can find solutions to the problems they encounter, who are pioneers in their current position and who respect universal values, and to have quality scientific studies and researches done. .

Vision: With its quality scientific publications and projects, academic staff who constantly renew and develop themselves by turning to popular research areas that have emerged as a result of the dizzying development of science and technology, individuals who have gained the ability to produce knowledge and apply their education in real life, national and international arena To be a recognized, leading division.

Education and Training: The academic year consists of two terms of 14 weeks each. The Fall semester starts in September and the Spring semester starts at the end of February. Each course given in our department is supported by practical lessons in order to reinforce individual work.

Admission and Registration Requirements: Students who want to enroll in the undergraduate program must complete the processes conducted by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center and have passed the exams. A student who has started his/her education in an equivalent program at home or abroad can apply for horizontal transfer. Acceptance of students is examined and evaluated individually, before the semester starts, taking into account the conditions of each student and the degree to which they apply.

Graduation Requirements: In order to graduate from the Art History Undergraduate Program, it is necessary to complete all the compulsory courses and all the elective courses in the education program, to have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and to complete a workload of 240 ECTS credits.

History
The Art History Department was established in the 2006-2007 academic year and is divided into four main disciplines: Turkish and Islamic Art, Byzantine Art, Western Art, and Archeology of Turkish World and Medieval Cultures. Currently, five faculty members and two research assistants work in our department under four departments. Our department, which started to admit its first undergraduate students in the 2014-2015 academic year, provides education for eight semesters, 14 weeks per semester.
Qualification Awarded
The master's program with thesis consists of at least seven compulsory and/or elective courses, a seminar course, thesis study and, if selected, a specialization course as stipulated by the EABD/EASD presidency, provided that it is not less than 120 ECTS credits. In order to pass the thesis stage, the student of the master's program with thesis must have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00, provided that he has been successful in all the courses he has taken, and must have succeeded at least 60 ECTS credits including the seminar course. Regarding the graduation requirements, the relevant articles of the Süleyman Demirel University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations are taken as a basis.

Admission Requirements
The quota and application conditions for each graduate program are determined by the proposal of the EABD/EASD academic board, the EK decision and the approval of the Senate, and are duly announced by the relevant institute. New student quotas for each semester are determined by taking into account the advisory loads of EABD/EASD faculty members.
The principles determined by the Senate are applied in the application for student admission to graduate programs, the conditions to be sought in the candidates, the scientific evaluation and/or interview exam and the evaluation of the applications.
Higher Grade Transition
In order to pass the thesis stage, the student of the master's program with thesis must have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00, provided that he has been successful in all the courses he has taken, and must have succeeded at least 60 ECTS credits including the seminar course.
Graduation Requirements
The student whose thesis has been accepted; Within one month following the thesis defense exam date, five copies of the thesis for the jury consisting of three people, and seven copies of the thesis for the jury consisting of five people, three bound and saved in electronic environment (removable memory) and the documents and documents requested by YÖK are completed and delivered to the institute. With the decision of the EYK, the student is entitled to receive a master's degree.

EYK may extend the delivery period for a maximum of one more month, if requested. A student who does not fulfill these conditions cannot receive his/her diploma, cannot benefit from student rights, and is dismissed from the institute if the maximum period expires.

The approved name of the EABD/EASD program completed by the student is placed on the graduate diploma.

Graduation date is the date on which the signed copy of the thesis by the members of the examination jury is delivered to the institute.

Along with the diploma, a transcript of the courses taken during the program is given to the student.

Within three months from the delivery of the thesis, a copy of the master's thesis is sent to the YÖK Presidency by the institute in order to be put into service of scientific research and activities in electronic environment.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The graduates of the Department of Art History may work at national or private museums, municipalities, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, at public institutions such as Directorate General of Foundations, , Ministry of Education, at research instituitions, libraries, and archives. In addition , they may also work as art consultancies in culture departments of banks and other private establishments, art galleries, architectural and restoration companies or participate in survey and archeological excavation. Graduates may continue their academic career in Turkey or abroad universities.
Assessment and Grading
The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the "Course Teaching Plan" prepared by the relevant faculty member/s and included in the information package. Regarding exams and course grades, the relevant articles of the SDU Graduate Education and Exam Regulations are applied. In order for the courses, practices and exams to be held in a foreign language, the relevant faculty member must have the conditions specified in the Regulation on Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Education Institutions and the Principles to be Followed in Teaching in a Foreign Language, published in the Official Gazette dated 23/3/2016 and numbered 29662.
