About Programme

Suleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Statistics was opened in 2012 and started education with its first students in the 2018-2019 academic year. Our department consists of Statistical Information Systems, Applied Statistics, Statistical Theory, Risk Analysis, Operations Research, Probability Theory and Probability Processes Departments. Students who graduate from the department of Statistics are employed in public and private organizations with the title of a statistician.; decision-making, data center, statistical process and Quality Control, Research Sunday, psychological and sociological research, and have the opportunity to work in areas such as biological and ecological studies. Graduates from the department can work as academicians, Computer Programmers, system analysts, and production personnel in banks, and insurance companies as specialists.


History
Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Statistics, was established in 2012. Our department started education by accepting its first students in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Qualification Awarded
This department is subject to the first-stage degree system of 240 ECTS credits in the field of statistical science in higher education. Upon successful completion of all the requisite qualifications, graduates are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Statistical Science. Those who have completed the requisite coursework are awarded the title of "statistician."
Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted to the undergraduate program, students are required to complete the necessary processes and pass the examinations set by YÖK in accordance with the academic and legal legislation of the university. Admission to the program is granted on the basis of a numerical score. As a prerequisite for graduation, applicants are required to have obtained the relevant secondary education qualification. Students who have commenced their studies in an equivalent program at an educational institution in their country of origin or abroad may submit an application for transfer. The admission of students is subject to examination and evaluation prior to the commencement of the semester, with due consideration given to the individual circumstances of each applicant and the extent of their application. Students who have been accepted to the university as part of an exchange program (e.g., Erasmus) and whose placement is approved by the university, with the number of students limited by an agreement, may register for any Turkish course specified in the Course Plan if they have the requisite Turkish language proficiency. In this context, prospective students interested in pursuing their studies at our university are invited to submit their applications by consulting the relevant units of our institution. The admission requirements for international students are structured in alignment with the language proficiency and academic criteria established by the university. Higher Grade Transition
Those who have successfully completed the program may apply for graduate programs in the field of statistical science or in other disciplines that accept students from this field. Our graduates are afforded the opportunity to pursue advanced academic studies in statistics and related fields, leveraging the knowledge and skills acquired during their undergraduate education. Those who graduate from this program may continue their studies at the undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral level in the same field. Furthermore, they may apply to graduate programs in other fields, should they be accepted. For instance, they may be afforded the chance to pursue a master's degree in disciplines such as data science, actuarial science, economics, engineering, and social sciences. In order to progress to the next stage of the program, it is necessary to meet the entry requirements of the relevant programs. These requirements usually include academic achievement, language proficiency, and an evaluation of studies in the relevant field. Should our graduates wish to continue their academic careers, they can also benefit from various scholarships and research opportunities offered by universities. There are also opportunities such as international student exchange programs and joint master's programs. These programs allow students to gain global experience and develop their careers internationally.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the program, students are required to successfully complete the undergraduate curriculum, which is equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS credits. In order to pass all courses, students must achieve a GPA of at least 2.0/4.0. Furthermore, students must complete the research project course specified in the program. Students may also opt to undertake internships, which provide an opportunity for students to gain practical experience and apply their theoretical knowledge.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Those who graduate from the Department of Statistics are equipped with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in a range of fields within public and private institutions, assuming the title of 'Statistician'. Our graduates are employed in a number of fields, including decision-making processes, data processing centres, statistical processing and quality control, market research, psychological and sociological research, and biological and ecological research. Those who graduate from the department may pursue careers as academicians, computer programmers, system analysts, or production personnel in banking and insurance institutions. In the public sector, they are employed by a variety of institutions, including the Turkish Statistical Institute, the State Planning Organisation, ministries, public banks, the Social Security Institution, the State Hydraulic Works, the General Directorate of Highways, the Mineral Research and Exploration Institute, ÖSYM, and the Court of Accounts. Additionally, graduates of the Department of Statistics are employed by a number of governmental institutions, including the Prime Ministry Undersecretariat of Customs, the Prime Ministry Undersecretariat of Treasury and Foreign Trade, the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), the Turkish Airlines (THY), the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).
Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the ECTS course information package, which is prepared by the relevant lecturers. The program employs a variety of assessment methods, including the administration of a midterm examination, the submission of homework assignments, the completion of exercises, the undertaking of projects, the presentation of applications, and the conduct of a final examination. The assessment methods may include, but are not limited to, a classical examination, a multiple-choice examination, homework, and a performance evaluation. The dates of examinations, the format of examinations, the impact of examinations on the final grade, and other assessment and evaluation methods are determined by the course instructors and communicated to students via the student information system. In order to succeed in the examinations, students are required to achieve a GPA of at least 2.0/4.0. The examinations may be written, oral, or practical in nature.
