The Department of Economics started accepting undergraduate students in the 1992-1993 academic year and produced its first graduates in 1996. The department carries out education and training activities in four main branches: “Economic Theory”, “Economic Policy”, “Economic History” and “Economic Development and International Economics”.
For postgraduate education, the Institute of Social Sciences offers the “Thesis Master’s Program in Economics”, “Second Education Non-Thesis Master’s Program in Economics”, “Distance Education Non-Thesis Master’s Program in Economics”, “International Trade Second Education Non-Thesis Master’s Program” and “Doctorate Program in Economics”. The department has a total of 25 academic staff; 9 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors, 3 Dr. Research Assistants and 1 Research Assistant.
The language of our department's Economics undergraduate program is Turkish. The Turkish Economics undergraduate program is formal education. Our mission is to train economists who question and interpret economic and social phenomena and have analytical thinking skills. In addition, the Department of Economics aims to graduate responsible individuals who contribute to science, follow regional and global economic developments, create economic policy proposals and prioritize social contribution.
Our vision is to be a dynamic, productive, internationally recognized and preferred department that produces qualified scientific publications, graduates, and responds to changing public/private sector needs.
The aim of the Department of Economics is to teach students basic economic information and analysis methods, to develop students' research, analysis and evaluation skills, and thus to train individuals who can analyze economic events in the world and in our country, make predictions about the future and quickly adapt to constantly changing workforce characteristics.
