About



The Department of Science Education was established in the 2013-2014 academic year and started to accept students in the same year. The main purpose of the program is; to train teacher candidates who understand science, develop a positive attitude towards science and can graduate with scientific literacy. Graduates; It is aimed to be teachers who can think creatively and critically, have self-respect, are sensitive to social and environmental problems, and practice their profession within the framework of ethical rules. In the undergraduate program of the Department of Science Education; In addition to field courses, field education and vocational knowledge courses, there are general culture, vocational knowledge and field education elective courses. Along with the undergraduate courses taken, the skills of presenting information to students with innovative methods, techniques and theories are instilled in prospective teachers. Based on the principle of "Learning by Doing", special attention is paid to practice in the lessons.



Vision of Science Education Undergraduate Program



The vision of the Science Education Undergraduate Program is to educate individuals who are highly qualified for the future of the country by utilizing the knowledge of science and technology in the light of universal values, to present their production for the benefit of the society, to provide education and training, to produce national and international information and technology and, to contribute the development. The aim of the department is to examine the educational problems of the society on the basis of education, equality and respect for human rights by contributing to the production of knowledge through theoretical and practical research in the field of Science Education, to provide solutions and to provide knowledge for the benefit of society. Our main objective is to become a respected educational institution at national and international level with its expert and competent academic staff, qualified educators to be trained, scientific researches and projects to be carried out.



Mission of Science Education Undergraduate Program



The mission of this program is to contribute to research, interpretation of research results, problem-solving, effective use of instructional technologies, creative, scientific and critical thinking skills of individuals who have graduated from the undergraduate program of Science Education and be competent and qualified in general culture, pedagogical formation, field knowledge. With this mission, in our department, learning environments are created where students can discuss educational problems, produce solutions for these problems and express themselves freely. In this way, our department enables to train students as individuals who are aware of their responsibilities and meticulous in their studies, open to interdisciplinary fields and criticism, share their studies, refer to academic criteria in their evaluations, support creative thinking. In addition, to organize meetings such as national and international congresses, symposiums, panels, conferences, workshops, to conduct research projects and publications, to create learning environments that students' access to information, facilitate communication and to ensure that students carry out their academic studies with an honest, open, democratic and participatory approach is located as missions of Department of Science Education.

History
Süleyman Demirel University, Department of Science Education was established in the 2013-2014 academic year and started to accept students in the same year. It continues the education-teaching process in undergraduate and graduate (master's) programs with its well-trained academic staff who are open to development and change.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a Bachelor of Science Education Diploma and these students can work as Science Teachers in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.
Admission Requirements
For admission to the program, candidates must:
• Having a high school diploma,
• Must get sufficient points from the relevant score type determined by the Council of Higher Education.
Higher Grade Transition
Students graduating from the Science Teaching Undergraduate Program can apply to master's programs with or without thesis and doctoral program in their own fields or in different fields for which they meet the requirements.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate from the Science Teaching Undergraduate Program:
• 240 ECTS credits must be completed.
• Must be successful in all courses and practices.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Program graduates:
• Works as a Science Teacher in secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.
• Provides consultancy in private institutions related to education.
• Works as a lecturer at universities.
Assessment and Grading
The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are determined by the relevant faculty members. Evaluations are made in accordance with Süleyman Demirel University regulations.
